How to install the Kahuna Grip Non-Slip Safety Treads, Hex Shape

Clean until the stair is honest, then peel and press. If a previous mat failed, the prep failed first.

   Sweep grit and salt off the tread

   Winter stairs in particular. Dust is as bad as wax. Vacuum, then wipe.

   Degloss if the wood is shiny

   Waxed oak will not hold tape or treads. Alcohol wipe at minimum. Bare wood or a dull finish is the goal.

   Mark the nose

   Dry-fit each tread so the front edge sits where the foot actually lands, with an even overhang.

   One stair at a time

   Peel, set, press from the center. Do not walk the flight until the last one is down.

   Give it a quiet night

   Avoid heavy traffic for 24 hours on wood, especially in a cold stairwell.

Keeping it clean after install

Clean in place. Warm water, a soft brush, and a household cleanser. You do not peel it off for a weekly scrub. Comet or Ajax is what we tell people for the mats.

If a white haze comes back, that is mineral or soap film sitting on the texture. Clean the film. The grit is still there.

If an edge lifts, dry the area, press it back, and keep traffic off. A lifted corner that stays wet is how mildew starts — not a reason to throw the piece away on day three.
